I like everything about Firelands! The facilities are outstanding, and the mood and enthusiasm remain dynamic. The maturing of what was then the newly born Firelands Community Hospital into what is now Firelands Health has been a joy to watch. It remains a superbly run hospital. My membership on the board of directors has allowed me to view that from the inside. A breadth of medical specialties enables me to keep most of my patient specialty referrals within the community. I cannot imagine a finer hospital in a community of this size. My wife Jill and I enjoy the simple things in life. Weather permitting, we take a daily walk strolling the downtown Sandusky waterfront. We try to eat out every Friday night. We remain drawn to the lake. About a year and a half ago, we sold the Perkins Township home where our kids grew up and moved to a downtown condominium where we can watch the Sandusky Bay and its many moods outside our window. We walk to the downtown restaurants and shops and our boat at Battery Park Marina. I enjoy exercising and working out at the gym at the end of most workdays. My work is mentally challenging but physically sedentary. The gym is the opposite. It relaxes my mind, melts stress, and maintains my physical fitness. I like the outdoors. I spend a week fishing with friends and my son every September in the Ontario, Canada, Provincial Forest. We are unplugged, with little connection to the outside world. It is a week of laughter, good- natured ribbing, and pure relaxation. I love my family. I have thoroughly enjoyed every stage of watching our kids grow up, mature, and find their adult identities. Seeing their personal and professional success gives me great pride. I tell them that as much as possible! Ball Medical Clinic Joins Firelands Physician Group Benjamin Ball, DO and Marcia Braun, MD of the Ball Medical Clinic in Bellevue recently joined the Firelands Physician Group (FPG), providing the clinic’s patients easy access to services at Firelands Regional Medical Center that are not offered at The Bellevue Hospital. “FPG’s partnership with the Ball Medical Clinic is beneficial for everyone. Patients are encouraged to continue to utilize the services at The Bellevue Hospital. If the care they need is not available there, they have the option of coming to Firelands. This eliminates the need for patients to travel outside the region for healthcare and provides them more continuity of care,” explains Scott Campbell, MD, vice president of Medical Affairs and chief medical officer at Firelands Regional Medical Center. “Nothing will change for patients except for an increase in available services. The Ball Medical Clinic will continue to operate at the same location, 1255 W. Main Street in Bellevue, and patients will continue to receive the quality healthcare Drs. Ball and Braun have always provided.” Dr. Ball, a specialist in internal medicine, has practiced medicine for over 30 years. He received his undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University and attended medical school at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Ball has held teaching positions at various institutions. Dr. Braun has served the Bellevue area in family medicine for over 15 years. After receiving her undergraduate degree from Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, she earned her medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. She completed her residency in family medicine at the Toledo Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. Comprised of over 170 multispecialty and primary care physicians, the Firelands Physician Group serves patients in Erie, Huron, Ottawa, and Sandusky counties. The group was established in 1985 to provide primary care providers to the community. It has since expanded to include several specialty physicians and nurse practitioners, allowing Firelands Regional Medical Center to provide full medical care coverage 365 days a year and provide continuity of care between major care providers and specialists. 35
