began 35 years ago when we were interns at Firelands. Drs. Watson and Lester Parker, who had established the service, were busy and asked us interns for help. We accepted the offer, enjoyed the work, and decided to continue after we opened our family practice. Corporate health is a different type of medicine than family practice, requiring various certifications and a different skill set. Bryan completed a mini-residency in occupational medicine from the University of Cincinnati, and we both are certified in occupational medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Preventive Medicine. Bryan serves as the medical director of the Firelands Corporate Health Center. We both live in Castalia, where we both raised our families. Brett and his wife Judy have four children, all of whom have chosen careers in healthcare. Andrew works as the office manager for Firelands Durable Medical Equipment; Grant is a pharmacist in Lewes, Delaware; Emily is a dentist in Sandusky and is married to Dr. Tim Adamowicz, an oncologist at Firelands; and Gavin is a DO hospitalist in Concord, New Hampshire. Brett enjoys golfing, hiking, biking, camping, and traveling to national parks. Bryan and his wife Nancy, a pharmacist at the Ohio Veterans Home, have three children. Their practice residency. We learned that two well-known physicians in Castalia, Dr. Jim Green and Dr. Bob Carver, had decided to retire. We thought Castalia would be a great place to practice; it was close to our hometown of Bellevue and had the small-town atmosphere we sought. We decided to take advantage of the opportunity. We bought a lot in downtown Castalia and built a small office. Our practice has grown through the years, so we have expanded with two additions to the original building. We eventually joined Firelands Physician Group, and the hospital established lab and physical therapy sites at our office, which is a huge convenience for our patients. It made sense for us to join Firelands because that’s where we trained. We knew the physicians and support staff and were familiar with how the hospital worked. Firelands provides a wide range of services for the size of the community. The number of specialties available means we can refer patients to physicians in the area. We’ve always had a great relationship with Firelands. The hospital has treated us well, and we have treated the hospital well. The affiliation is mutually beneficial, and as a result, our patients also benefit. In addition to family practice, we work several hours a week at Firelands Corporate Health Center, which we daughter Kaitlyn has a Master of Public Health degree and is a stay-at-home mother. She lives in Huron with her husband and four children. Brianne is a pharmacist and osteopathic physician completing her neurology residency at Michigan State University and plans to complete a fellowship in stroke care. Derek works in finance in Dublin, Ohio. His wife is a first-year osteopathic medical student at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Dublin. Bryan and Nancy travel in the US and abroad when not visiting their children. One of their favorite spots is Florida, where Bryan can indulge his passion for golf. 33
